Just assembling the gear lever on my S2 following gearbox rebuild and noticed, when moving the lever across the horizontal plane there is approx 8mm play across the pin beneath before the base of the lever touches the fibre thrust washers.
As per photo
Would anyone know if this is correct or am I missing something?
Thank you
Simon

If it's lateral play, then no there shouldn't be that much. That space should be largely taken up with the two Tufnol washers.

Hi Simon,
It is some time since I assembled the gearbox and it is an S1, but the parts book confirms: the double coil spring washer goes between the pivot jaw and the tufnol washer.
An older post „fitting gearstick shifter“ viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14548 might also help.
Greetings
Daniel

Understood now thank you.
I shall fit the spring washer between the yokes and that will eliminate the play.
Another issue sorted!

A Thackery Washer has a Joggle in the flat wire from which its made, where the ends of the wire fall slightly short of lining up. This joggle allows the faces of the Thackery Washer to remain parallel even when fully compressed and effectively, the Thackery Washer is only two thickness of wire for its full 360 degrees.
Without the joggle, the washer will be three thicknesses of the wire where the end nearly meet, and only two thicknesses elsewhere.

This washer is called a Thackery Washer and is quite different to a spring washer, notwithstanding that at least one of the Parts Sellers were offering a Spring Washer with an extra helix as a Thackery Washer.the double coil spring washer
