Folks, beside the oil sender on top of filter area, there is another sender about 6 inches to the front
of engine, what is it for? I do have the temp sender for water on the intake. Thanks Mike.

Hi Mike,

I photo might help to identify what you are seeing, however there shouldn’t be any other sender forward of the oil cleaner assembly. It sounds like a previous owner has fitted an additional sender into one of the oil gallery plugs along the side of the block. It may be for a low oil pressure light??

Look at the wireing diagram for your car chassis number.. some have an oil pressure switch forward of the oil filter housring...its an on/off and operated the red warning lamp in the speedo....some think the red lamp is an ignition warning lamp but it was used in pre 3AW...Steve.
"In early cars, including S1 4.2's up to about July 1967, the ignition light was controlled by an oil pressure switch.
July 1967, the oil pressure switch was replaced by the 3AW control unit. Now the ignition warning light was controlled by the alternator. If no alternator output, the light would go on."

The red lamp is an ignition warning lamp. It warns when the ignition is left on with the engine not running.

It warns with the oil pressure switch by turning on the red lamp when there is no oil pressure since the engine is not running. With the 3AW, by lighting up the red lamp when there is no alternator output since the engine is not running.
The charge indicator is the amp gauge or the voltmeter gauge depending on the year/series.

Hi Tom...I was trying to pointing out how the light works with the oil pressure switch....if it comes on when the engine is running you haven't got ignition problems you have a lack of oil pressure. So although the lamp is called an ignition warning lamp understanding how it works gives you far more information....Steve
