Mich, my understanding is that the S1 4.2 seats are essentially the same as on the S2 car, although the later seats on the S2 had headrests. Is your plan to fit S2 seats? If so, why not consider doing the proper upgrade (one of the few beneficial upgrades) and fit MX5 seats? They really are more comfortable, and with a bit of work they easily accommodate a taller driver. I’m an advocate and well pleased with my version of the seats and adapter plates.

Hi Geoff
I already have the MX5 seats in my car, Angus having strongly recommended them to me you can imagine!
Sitting all the way back, I have to recline the backrest a lot to get my upper body in the correct position, but my legs aren't in as comfortable position as they were in my coupé with the original S1 seats.
The foam in the MX seats is very dense, so I could put some weight on them to 'break them in'.
For the moment, it's not an improvement, apart from comfort.

Mich, if it’s a problem of leg room, have you got or tried a smaller steering wheel, 15 inches instead of the standard 16? It helps as I found.
Are you wanting to fit S2 seats instead of the MX5 seats? Is that why you asked the original question?
Good luck
Geoff

Yes, série 2 instead of MX5.

A terrible idea IMHO. The head rest on the S2 seats are neck breakers if you get smashed up the rear end which is why (for one reason) I went for MX-5's. That is, if they can resist any pressure. The headrest mounts only go through the top tube of the backrest which would easily twist if subject to much pressure on the headrest itself.
At first I was not sure of the MX-5 seat position until I adjusted the reach of the steering wheel. I've also fitted a slightly smaller Mota Lita wheel which is also much stiffer than the Jaguar wheel.
If you need more headroom with the MX-5 seats, you can trim a few cm from the bottom of the seat cushion.
