#1 Timing chain tensioner

Hi all
I am trying to slacken my upper timing chain, I have set engine to tdc, removed all 4 bolts holding the cams to the sprockets but when I try and turn the serrated plate clockwise on the adjuster it seems stuck, the pin depresses OK and the plate does move forward and backwards by a tiny bit but not enough to slacke the chain. I have loosened the 11/16 nut, do I need to remove this nut. Any ideas

Why have you removed the bolts holding the cams to the sprockets...what are you trying to do... to adjust the upper chain you slacken the adjuster center nut...fully press in the locking pin.. look close the pin has serrations..press in till they dissengage..then you can turn the adjuster clockwise or anticlockwise....Steve

I am removing the cams and the head, the plunger is definitely pushed in fully but the serrated plate will not turn I can only achieve a small. Rocking of the plate in both directions

Possibly the adjuster is seized...try giving it a few taps...even if you can't slacken the chain you may still be able to dismantle both sprockets on the camshafts...Steve

You can remove the nut/star washer and remove the serrated plate.. Steve

I’ve just refitted my head and had similar issues. Despite using the correct tool to depress the serrated plunger the plate wouldn’t turn. After a few attempts it freed off.
My guess it’s just a matter of keep trying
