#1 2+2 rear seat torsion bar.

Post by Stevejaguar » Fri Apr 05, 2024 10:09 am

Hi,
does anyone know the purpose of the torsion bar connecting the forward links on the rear seat squab assembly? Part number BD28572. Mine has threaded studs on each end, brass washers and locking nuts are missing.
Steve,
series 1 2+2,
in less bits than before I retired.

Hi Steve,
I don't think its a torsion bar as such, more just a connecting rod with the purpose of ensuring the moving seat section moves in a parallel motion rather than each side being independant which would cause it to jam against the wheel arches. Its only my theory as my seat is not in the car yet.

Yes I second that.

If you need pics of specific parts / I am just putting the final bits on mine, March 66 S1 2+2.

Thanks for the replies
I have to admit that mine has been like it is for at least 25years without any problems. Every day is a learning day.

Hi Carsten, thanks for the offer of photos. The only real query I still have is the diameter and thickness of the brass washers that fit between the mechanism and the seat. Are they just 'normal' washers or anything special?

Hi Steve,
My washers were to hand so have taken a photo, 1 inch dia. and 5/8 bore, thickness is somewhere around 30 thou using my micrometer fingers.
