#1 Removing the clutch release arm

Post by andrewh » Sun Mar 27, 2011 5:25 pm

I am trying to seperate my bell housing from my gearbox on the Moss box, and to do this one needs to push down the swivel pin on the clutch release arm having first taken the locking bolt out. This is proving to be a pig of a job as the pin seems to be stuck in place it is nigh on impossible to get a brass punch on the top of this to tap it down. Come on all you experts, there must be a technique to this?

Hi. I had exactly the same problem so I posed the question in my restoration blog post. See page 7 for the answer...

I borrowed the tool rather than making one but it worked a treat :o)

I would be happy to loan out the tool I made which is the one Chris borrowed and is referred to in his post.

Well that was easy wasnt it!?

Thanks for the very quick reply and so pleased it can be sorted. I have just spoken to the guy who is rebuilding my gearbox and he seems to think he can take this off himself, so he must have a similar tool. That said I may take you up on the offer of loan as it will be easier to do it myself perhaps. Cheers.

By the way, am I correct in thinking the bellhousing should be painted black, mine is?

Yes Lee, thats very helpful indeed! Anyway, I now have the offer of a proper tool so all should be well.

I am rather confused about the black painted bell housing too. It definitely black paint although its not over all of it. I wonder if its a bit of overspray from the undersealing. Will investigate further and post some photos.
