Does anyone know what the thread size is for the drain and level plugs in the rear diff of a series 1?
Also, does anyone know of interchangeability (eg later Jaguars, Range Rovers etc) or a source of these plugs with a less obscure head than 9/16" square? Given the difficulty of access to these to get a spanner onto and the fact I've not got and can't easily find an adapter with a 9/16" female end, I'd like to replace them with ones having for example a 1/2" square recess or a hex head or an allen hex recess head.

Never had a problem getting them off using an open end crow's foot e.g. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1260 ... Name=Tools Alternative is to buy yourself an 8 point socket: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00944223000P
Bought mine on US eBay and may be quicker than trying to source a 1/2" replacement of the correct thread especially given the infrequent need to remove them.
Don't forget to add the special Jaguar LSD additive to avoid the plates clicking.
