#1 New Brake Kits

Post by Simon Bolton » Fri Aug 02, 2013 3:47 pm

Hi Everyone
I've just come back from a great trip over the Alps only marred by some fading brakes(scary) so time for an upgrade.
I have seen the existing list but, having just visited Silverstone Classic show, I came across a stand called Fosseway Performance(WWW.fossewayperformance.co.uk) with a full range of E-Type braking and cooling products and I was wondering if anyone has tried them.
They had a beautiful demonstrator fitted with some of their products and they looked impressive.
My car is a Series 1 and the appropriate vented disc brake kit with a lightweight four pot caliper was ?650 +vat and looked tasteful and well made.

Any feedback you have would be much appreciated,
Cheers
Simon

cheers
Simon

No experience of them but I have driven 45,000 miles using Zeus callipers without a problem, even on the steepest of descents. My discs are S3 ventilated. I like the Zeus ones because they have no fancy paintwork or logos, just zinc plated so they disappear into the wire wheel, much like the originals. The company has real provenance having made the 4 pot callipers for London Taxi's since 1989 so they have been tested over billions of miles.

I have had Zeus on my FHC for 20 years and never had a moment's trouble with them, and when I rebuilt the car the spares I wanted ( seals etc ) came by return of post. A much cheaper approach is to fit Volvo 244 calipers, or go for S2 E type uprights and calipers . ?780 sounds rather a lot to me

Coopercraft do a bolt on caliper that I have just fitted to my S1.5. The calipers are steel and look similar enough to the S 2 calipers as to not draw the eye. They are available direct or from the usuals.

Thanks for reply guys and yes I was considering the Coopercraft as well and I was also concerned with the calipers sticking out like a sore thumb. One of my concerns though is do I have to change the rear brakes to match the performance?
I am though going to go for this outfit Fosseway Performance as I liked the chap and was impressed with his enthusiasm and the setup-sometimes you have to go with your gut feelings.
These are similar price to Coopercraft and the calipers are silver anodizing with laser engraved logo but no paint infill so pretty subtle like the Zeus.
I will keep you posted as to ease of fitting and performance-they are apparently a swap fit so we'll see!!

#6 New brake kits

Post by Simon Bolton » Wed Sep 18, 2013 4:24 pm

Hi Everyone
As promised an update on the new kid on the block, Fosseway Performance Brake kit.
I have just fitted their front brake upgrade and I opted for vented discs with silver caliper finish.
The delivery was swift and well presented and the quality of the kit is outstanding...the braided hose even has a nifty logo'd trim to it.
The fit was straight forward (about half a day) with a chum for company and tool handing....and of course the bleed.
Discreet looks but lovely.
Only done about 50 miles but a huge difference already...just wish I had had it in the Alps.
I would post pictures but I am afraid that is beyond me...have a look at the sites though. I think they are going to Stoneleigh and certainly to the Classic Car show

Simon,

Since they are actually situated in your village I would think you would be the ideal person to comment on them.
Odd place to have an E-Type outlet, Blockley is not exactly on the main route to anywhere or near any motorway links, lovely part of the country though.

Just for info I recently replaced all my brakes with vented discs all round. I have the Derek Watson suspension geometry upgrade on the front fitted with Coopercraft XJS aluminium 4 pot calipers in silver powder coat.
The rears are S2 with spacers from Rob Beere racing.
From the limited time I have driven the car this year I can't really comment on their performance and won't since my WHCo supplied wiring harness went up in a cloud of smoke last week so I now have to buy and fit a brand new harness. this time I'm going to use a reputable company - Autosparks.

Hi Dave
Nice to know you are still ticking.
Firstly Blockley(Northwick Park ind estate),maybe surprisingly, is a hotbed of classic motor racing and engineering both in cars and bikes and particularly in Jag xk's and Austin Healeys. Please come and visit me(chaps here value privacy) and I will introduce you around and trust me you will be amazed. We also have better known firms like Blockley tyres and Royal Enfield/Watsonian sidecars who also welcome visitors. There is one outfit selling classic bikes especially BMW's and another specialist outfit servicing race bikes.-not quite the backwater eh?
My original enquiry on this forum was to find out if anyone had any experience of the product. Up until then my only contact was at Silverstone where I recognised the guy and got talking-lets face it as you well know anyone from around here recognises the name Fosseway. There is also a chap in the village(pretty though it is) who apparently works on the design team for Renault F1- I will be chatting with him as well when I can!
To the Brake kits- I still rate them highly( just done a couple of hundred miles to bed them) -really good even though I now know the chap to wave to- sociable lot we are!
Original brakes and shields(nearly new) for sale if anyone is interested.
Hope this puts your mind at rest.
Cheers
Simon
