Steve, thanks for highlighting what the manual stated, a good relevant point which I had forgotten, though I must have read it several times . On the subject of wear, the image below is of the TRE which was on my car (and still is) I don't consider it got the uniform 'spooning out' by wear, if it did I think the wear area would be shiny.
