#1 JEC XK Engine seminar

Post by Gfhug » Fri Sep 26, 2014 4:24 pm

The JEC are advertising their XK engine seminar in November.
Anyone been on one before and have any comments? Would you recommend it as a useful general knowledge introduction to help look after the engine and for routine servicing?

Thanks
Geoff

This is the first one I can remember on the engine itself . The ones I have been on on different subjects - E type restoration, upholstery and trim, bodywork repairs, etc have all been very interesting and well worth going to

I'm signed up to go. Never been to one of these events before, and am looking forward to it.

I've also booked in to the hotel across the road for the night before. Hopefully there will be a few of us there, be good to chat over a few beers!

Cheers.

Steve and I are going and I think Simon (288gto) will as well. We are both about to start on our engines soon so its good timing this seminar.

Booked.

Not staying in hotel as I should be able to make an early start on the day. Be good to catch up, though, and put a few faces to names. Not too many bleary faces on those who are staying?

Is the XK engine the same as the XKE engine. I was just wondering why E type people would be interested in the XK engine. I have just bought a 2007 XK convertable 4.2. Being a V8 engine I assumed it would be a totally different engine. Or am I getting totally confused and it is nothing to do with the more modern XK and more about the engine in the XK 120-150 which is the same as the XKE. Or is it?? Totally confused.

Tony : the XK refers not to the modern XK which has just finished in production - they have AJV8 engines. XK is always taken to refer to all the 6 cylinder engines which were produced from 1948 to 1986 ( and a few later than that for the DS420 )

It would be useful to know who will be staying at the hotel on friday night. As far as I know, it's just Ian (iani) and myself. Be great to catch up with and put some faces to names over a couple of beers!

Anyone else staying?

Cheers.

Any comments about the day?
I learned lots about the engine and felt David Marks gave a good presentation.
From my own viewpoint I would have preferred more of a what you can do to an engine in the car rather than how to take it fully to bits and overhaul.
E.G adjusting timing, tappets (yes, covered) carbs, etc.
Not complaining at the JEC just thoughts of how it would have suited my biased needs/wishes.

Certainly enjoyed the day and it was great to meet up with fellow Jaguar owners of all types and a few E Type owners that don't seem to know of this forum (shame on them!)

I suppose they could have put out the agenda before hand to help everyone be clear on what would be covered, but As David (presenter) made clear, it is a whole load of subject matter to get through in one day!

I personally thoroughly enjoyed it; it covered the areas that I had the least understanding of (core block and head) and thought that David did an amazing job of getting the information across clearly.

Also enjoyed meeting people that I had commnicated with via the forum - as you say, putting faces to names was a great bonus!

The guys a met and chatted with, namely iani, Alty Ian and 288GTO (plus a few others) were a great to chat and catch up with.

Thought it was a fantastic day (and evening at the hotel!).

Cheers.
