The first two cases occurred while setting up newly rebuilt engines. In both instances the engines would idle to be tuned but would run very poorly under any load on road testing. In both cases when measured with an ohmmeter all caps had essentially infinite resistance.
Today I put a third new set on my 4.2, which runs perfectly. Before installation I measured the resistances of all caps out of the bag. They were all near as perfect at 10 kohm. I then took the car for a drive. Within 20 km I began to notice some missing and hesitation under throttle. Within a further 5 km the car was pretty much undrivable except under minimum throttle. I then replaced the caps with a set of old, known good ones. Car has now run perfectly for another 30 km.
I have just rechecked the resistances on the third set of caps and they are all now infinite resistance.
I bought the third set from SNGB in September of last year. The other 2 sets came from David Manners. They are identical, with the 10 kohm stickers.
If your car is misfiring and you have these caps fitted take them off and check them with an ohmmeter. They may be faulty.
I will send an email to SNGB to let them know as well.
