#1 Not all carburetor problems are ignition problems.

I thought I would share a recent experience. My '67 OTS, which was running superbly, suddenly developed a serious misfire. Since it has a Mallory dual point, known for destroying condensers, my first thought was to change the condenser and then swap in a new coil. This did not cure the problem. Having recently changed ignition wires, I replaced them with a different brand of new wire. Still no joy. Perhaps being pessimistic, I did compression and leak down tests. Results were good. Noticing the misfire was in the rear three cylinders (which I probably should have focused on earlier) I found the culprit. The needle had dropped right out of the piston in the rear carburetor and was just sitting down in the jet. (I hadn't played with that carburetor in a couple of years.) Took two hours to diagnose and two minutes to fix.
