#1 Running problem

Post by jaime » Sun May 10, 2009 12:52 pm

I have tried jaglovers on this but still no joy, I start my car via (jump leads) as battery has become dead because of problem, starts fine every thing works fine then after 5 or so mins the voltage gauge, petrol gauge drop like no power, the horn stops working, then the engine starts misfiring and will not rev then finally dies, If I wait a while it'll start again and process will start again.

Thanks in advance

Jaime

Jamie

My guess is your problem is electrical and is one or more of these:

1. Battery failing to hold charge, so faulty
2. Alternator diodes failed producing no charge
3. Voltage regulator faulty

Let us know what year and model of E-Type and what steps you have taken so far to diagnose/eliminate the problem and we can go from there. An E-Type will only run whilst there is sufficient charge in the battery to power the ignition system. A flat battery means the car will stop.

Hi David,

Im going to replace battery today, no seperate VR as within alternator
the wiring going in to the alternator is a bit weak so will replace that as well, although the alternator isn't that old but could be faulty.
I'll post an update later

 Right I replaced the battery and renewed the spade connection on the alternator and no problem hurrah!, although I still wait to see if it charges fine, the voltage gauge says normal. So thank you
