#1 Mystery wire behind instrument cluster
Hi Gents,
Attached are 2 photos....I need help identifying a "loose" wire......The vehicle is a "72" Jag XKE , Series III, V-12.
The wire in question is the green one pictured with a 5 amp fuse in between, and white cloth type on the other end. The connector at the end of the white wire is a female spade type. I've checked my wiring references on hand and can't seem to identify it. Along with this "loose" green-white wire , there is also a brown/purple wire. From I understand, it powers the electrical radio aerial/antennae....which I do not have. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Wes
P.s...the yellow wires pictured are what the previous owner installed...some type of manual fan override circuit which leads to a toggle switch mounted on the center console, just right of the drivers leg. Another enigma to solve.

Hi Wes,
Like others I could not view the photos, look up how to post photos which was covered elsewhere. From the sounds of it, I guess the green white wire may be an addition to allow radio connection, but I would have to see a picture for a better clue. The power aerial wires are included in the S3 loom, even if not equipped with one from new. From memory the long cable down to the rear right wing (RHD) is fitted but I had to make a link wire to connect the dash end to the fuse terminal.
I fitted a fuse in my aerial line maybe this is the green/white cable you are looking at?
Anyway, post a photo we can all see
Regards,
Simon

Could it be related to the radio? I had a similar search for a similar part on my S1.5.

Well....my radio works fine...as well as one can expect for a stock version that is 45 years old.
I just cant seem to locate what or where the green-fuse-white wire connects to... I've checked all the vacant male spade connections, none show any markings of having anything connected. Could anyone confirm my thoughts of the brown/purple wire being associated with a powered aerial/antennae ? Thanks again.

Yes sir,
I have a few wiring diagrams. I will go back and review. Maybe I overlooked something.

Hi Wes....the only white i can see to an inline fuse is to the heated rear screen.....the diagram shows it as in the dash as per your location but shows a white out of the fuse.....check to see what colour goes to the rear screen switch

Hi Steve,
On the diagram I have ..it shows a white wire with fuse running in to the rear glass heater switch, a black/white wire running out and into the rear glass heater element/defroster terminating to a ground/earth. I am at work at present. I will see what is actually on my car. I am sure with everyone's help that we will solve the riddle.

Do you have a heated rear screen? The white spade end would go to the fuse block. If it is disconnected then there there is no power in the wire anyway.
Andrew.

Yes Sir,
There is a heating element in the rear windscreen hatchback. I will check for power at the switch and element with a volt/ohm meter. Hopefully this will solve the issue. We shall see.
Thank you.

Well, I checked the wires at the "demister/defroster" switch both are present/connected and there is power to the switch as well as to the rear windscreen heating element......Looks like the search continues.......

Hi Mark,
The wire was already disconnected. I am trying to locate its connection point...if it has any. At some time in its past ,a previous owner did some "work" behind the gauges and switches. I'd like to know what this wire is for ( green-fuse-white).

If it's from a PO it shouldn't be too hard to follow the wire. Easy enough to take off the under dash panels to see where it goes. if it goes into an original loom, then find which one it is and follow that round. There are not many other options unless you know where the other end is.
