#1 Belt length and alternator

Post by 66an » Sat Jan 07, 2017 8:37 pm

Hi
I got a problem with the alternator/water pump belt. I ordered the Duplex 1100mm from SNG but its way to short. 1100mm is the proper length as far as I know. So maybe I have wrong parts on my engine? Can anyone tell me if I have the correct alternator before I try to find a longer belt? It is stamped 11AC 0969 12V 23526K.

Hej Mats,
Alternator is correct, fan on the Alternator is wrong and so is the installation of the bracket.
Alternator shoul be much closer to the engine. On my car I think the distance between installed alternator and engine head is maximum 15mm.
If you look at XKE data you can see a old photo where you get a glimpse of the gap on my installation, look for 1E12124.

Hi Mats,

I don't think you can push your alternator more, it's very near the engine.
Just a thing for the setup bar, it's upside down.
When the engine is mount you'll can't ajust the tension of the belt.
The fixed point is on the engine and the part with the adjustment on the alternator.
I did't put the bar like you ( the rounding touch the fan ) I fix it at the other side of the bolt.

Thanks for the replies!
I changed direction on the upper bracket/bar because it collided with the (wrong)alternator fan. I cant get closer with the alternator to the engine than this. Its´s around 25mm left to go and I need to come closer.
Is it wrong bar or wrong bracket on the water pump? It was an Motorola alternator on engine when it was taken apart so it´s possible it´s wrong parts here.
I need a the correct alternator fan, a tip where I can get one, anybody?

I agree, it looks like the alternator is too far from the block. Left as it is, you may have problems with it hitting on the frame rail. Unless you're going for concours competition, could you not just cut the adjustment bracket to the correct length and then drill a new hole for the mounting, leaving the adjustment slot as is?

Hi Mats...have a look here you may have to flick through a few pages but your bracket looks longer more like a S2 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5523&start=180
S1 4.4 bracket http://www.sngbarratt.com/ProductDetail ... adf6bf&l=7

Hi Mats,
Can't you put the triangle part upside down with the fixed point
on the left and not on the right ?
Could you fixed your braket bar at the back of this part and have it consequently
at the back of its current place on the alternator ?
You could re fit your fan like this and get more than 5cm closer the engine.

Hi Mats,
Adjustment link is not correct and new correct shorter is available from SNG Barrat, Steve did a link in above posting for the correct one.

I see that SNG do not carry the correct fan for the alternator, I have one spare in the garage that needs major attention but if you are interested I can look it up next time I'm there, please PM me if you are interested and I can send a picture.
