Finally found weather conditions in my favour last Saturday to (rain had washed away the salt and a wind to dry the road) test drive the car with the refurbished distributor. The car ran well but the oil pressure gauge went awol during the journey and assuming it is the sender unit - replacement on order.
What I didn't appreciate was an engine vibration at 3500 rpm, having just fitted a new crankshaft damper can only imagine it is this that has caused the problem and would welcome your views?
