Wire Wheels
#1 Wire Wheels
Am curious if any of our friends across the pond are familiar with this wire wheel outfit. This is the first I've seen of them. Would appreciate any inputs. Thanks

A member of the local Jaguar club (Dallas) purchased a set from this company nearly 10 years ago. He was very happy with the transaction.

With MWS wheels you do need to check the spokes for tightness at least once a year (run a small spanner across the spokes and listen for any change in tone).

Yes. It seems they have been bringing them from India since 1982.

I'm in my 10th year with tubeless MWS center laced wires (6.5") on my S1 FHC. Bought them as part of a group buy with a bunch of guys from the U.S. Jag-Lovers Forum. Certainly no issues with loose spokes or pressure leak down. Wherever mine were made, they appear to be of decent quality.

Hi Steve,
Nobody spoke about quality. The MWS wheels are high quality wheels.
They are not built in UK as some thought, that's all.

There have been some other experiences of MWS wheels that they are not high quality. Generally they are well regarded and of course there can be individual issues with a batch etc. not to be confused with overall quality. The mention of rust after such a short time did concern me.

However, there is a link on the MWS web site regarding salt water testing that relates to the hubs they supply.
http://www.mwsint.com/site/cms/newsarti ... 11&nid=137
which does give an indication of the companies commitment to testing and QA.
They also have achieved BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000 approval as a Manufacturer and Distributor of British Classic, Vintage and Veteran Wire Wheels and Accessories.

#12 Re: Wire Wheels
I had to have all four of mine rebuilt by MWS (at £100+ each) because of loose spokes. Longstone Tyres confirmed this was an ongoing problem hence the advice to check for loose spokes every year. Not difficult to do and easily remedied by nipping up with a spanner. I had so many loose spokes (did not realise I had to check them!) that a rebuild was recommended.

I bought a set of Dayton chrome stainless steel wheels a year ago. They have a patented process that guarantees that the spokes will not come loose. That remains to be seen, but so far, no issues with loose spokes.

I believe the original question was in regard to the distributer in the E-bay ad, British Performance Parts. I'm interested in their "local" reputation myself.
