#1 Polished finish on carburettors and cam covers
After a three year interval the restoration of my Series 1 roadster is starting to show some real progress. I have sent off the carburettors and manifold for restoration and have been asked what finish I want on them. I am used to the rather dull finish on the dashpots and cam covers of my Mark 1 Jaguar but it seems that the E Type has a highly polished finish. I this correct? I don't want to ask for a finish that makes the engine look too blingy but I would like it correct.

Thank you, they certainly look shiny as do all the pictures of carburettors in the various restoration books. I will go for the Jaguar polished look as a finish.

The modern mirror finish is far far shinier than the factory ever produced , which was beautifully polished but with a soft sheen . If you overdo the polishing, they turn out looking as though they have been chromed, which is certainly not the way they were when new

Is there now a widely acknowledged "best way" to tackle polishing the carb area and cam covers? I'm conscious that most of the readers of this forum must have tried their hand at this in one way or another in the past.
