#1 Brake pipes, fuel pipes and wiring loom

Post by RichardF » Thu Aug 13, 2009 9:06 pm

Would someone with a nice neat installation of the above items be prepared to email me some pictures of their various location and routes in the engine bay so that I can get them all just right.

I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks
Regards

Richard

I would really appreciate it too, and why not to make it a proper topic for future references.

Thanks in advance.

Those are outstanding photos. One day I'll be at that stage. One point worth mentioning is that sometime in 1965, the horns were moved from the bonnet to the lower front subframe, and the brake-light switch relocated to the servo. My first E-Type had the former configuration, while the current project has the latter. I'm not sure which chassis numbers saw the change, but it's worth keeping in mind when ordering harnesses. It'll eliminate those "Where in the hell do these wires go?" moments.

Installing an electrical harness isn't difficult. When wiring my first FHC, I found that by leaving everything loose until most connections were made allowed it to more or less fall into place.

Mark - yes, my car is 1E20357 , built early Feb 65, and is right on the changeover point for the horns . However, although my original bonnet had the horns in it, the new heritage bonnet has no mounts for them, so I am putting them on the front frame and ordered the loom to suit

Guys, I have attached a photo of my car Sep '65. Note the run of the brake line from master to the 3 way. I strongly believe the car had not been taken apart so would consider this to be the original route of the pipe.

I just had a look in Haddock's book and the brake-light switch was apparently moved in March, 1966. Odd, because my car was built in November, 1965, has the switch in the new location, and is largely unmolested. These inconsistencies cause me to view "originality" guides with a certain amount of suspicion.
