#1 Does anyone recognise this part?

Post by lestere » Sat Dec 23, 2017 9:48 pm

Season’s Greetings
Today I’ve been reassembling my right hand front suspension after replacing all the bushes and ball joints. I thought this would be a good time to convert to RHD too, so have removed the rack and the bonnet and radiator to give better access and do some cleaning of difficult to reach areas.
I been carefully bagging and labelling all parts but I seem to have two of these which look like spacer shims labelled KA-316 3/4ᵒ. Does anyone recognise these parts and know where they are fitted?
Thanks, in anticipation
Lester

Thanks for the reply. I’ve fitted the front and rear upper wishbone shims. They are much thinner than this with smaller bolt apertures. The strange thing is I can’t find this KA-316 in the parts book. No luck with google on the part number either.

Is it a packing for the bonnet hinge alignment.

The labelling suggests it is a suspension shim made of 316 stainless that gives 0.75 degrees of camber.
It doesn't look like original E Type to me.

Thanks for the replies so far. I just can’t remember taking these off of the car. I also thought they looked like bonnet spacers but I haven’t removed any of these……. Removing the bonnet by undoing only the two hinge bolts. The confusing part is I cant find any suspension part with similar fixing size and spacing to match these?? :questionmarks:

Rear door/hatch hinge shims, perhaps? Not quite like originals, but the length is about right.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have now reassembled the right front suspension and didn’t need these shims?? I did look to see if they matched the bolt spacing while assembling and they did not; so I can only assume they were accidently mixed in with my parts. Sorry to waste everyone’s time.
On the positive side, everything dismantled very easily and went back without a problem. None of the very old and perished rubber bushes were seized on the shafts and the wishbone cleaned up with just a wire brush. Even the brake disk/rotor shields cleaned up with some degreaser and the wire brush. It seems hard to believe these are 50+years old. Is there any way of knowing if they are replacement parts? I can’t find a part number!
I have decided while doing this front end refresh I may as well convert from left to right hand drive. So, I have ordered the rack. I just couldn’t see the point in putting the old rack back especially as I could feel a small amount of play in it.
Happy New Year to all.
