Hi,
I am putting together the radio console for a 1966 series 1. Mine has gone from auto to manual so after replacing the tunnel I am having to source all the correct parts.
The SNG Barratt drawing of the console matches what I bought from Robey. However I note that some of the best restored cars I look at from 1966 have an outer panel covered in vinyl.
The standard 4.2 radio console does not come with outer panels and as I mention some drawings dont show them.
The XKS drawing does however suggest there might be a part BD26202/3 together with a gasket BD26854 and the grill of course. Aldridge do an outer already trimmed.
see the beautiful car attached for the black outer cover around the console.
If anyone understands what I am talking about can they concur I need to order this piece.
Some that I see have clearly just stretched vinyl over what Robey supplied which looks wrong to me.

I have a '66 FHC and the picture you show looks correct if you are mainly talking about the 2 side speaker panels which came with moulded black vinyl on them.
There is a close-up shot of one in the S1 4.2 factory fit thread, on the blue OTS car.

Sounds like you agree there is an outside panel which appears to be held by a standard Cam Cover style nut at the back.
Thanks

BD26202/3 are the speaker panels which go onto the overall console metal frame.
There are then the speaker grilles and if I remember a cardboard type gasket between the speakers and the metal chassis.
The whole assembly is fixed to the bulkhead with 4 fixings, 2 chromed knurled knobs at the bottom and 2 chromed domed bolts at the top.

Fantastic information I will get the panels ordered up.
I might make the gaskets as I guess they are just to stop vibration how hard can that be.
