I have a couple of questions regarding the back pipes removed from my S1 2+2.
The car had been "lumped" with a Chevy V8 engine and TH gearbox so the manifolds and forward part of the exhaust are not likely to be standard fit.
The rear sections appear to be bespoke (and made from stainless steel) and are 56" long which from what I can make out equates to the length of the rear section of a 2+2 exhaust system.
However, I measure the bore diameter at 2 1/4", which seems a bit on the large side to me. I imagine a wider bore equals marginally more power and considerably more noise. Are these dimensions familiar to anybody?
I have an Abarth system to put on the restored car but I was wondering if these pipes had any value to anybody in the E Type community or whether I should just shove them up on eBay.
I'd be grateful for any thoughts.
Peter

#2 Re: Exhaust back pipe query
Hello Peter,
Did you drive the car with these exhaust? If so, was the noise bearable?
I have had the first part (manifold to under the car = down pipe?) of my exhaust made already. And am getting close to a point where I can fit the rest of the exhaust to my car.
The exhaust shop told me that in total (down pipe + mufflers + tail pipes) this would set me back 300Euro.
So in case you want to sell, I would gladly consider buying them. Pending of course on pricing.
Are these located in Italy?
Cheers

Yes, I have driven with them in place but the car had the SBC motor in it at the time, so I can't tell you anything about resonances with an XJ motor. The noise was fine but it was a typical Yank V8 wuffle sound if you know what I mean, and the convoluted manifold arrangement to fit the SBC restricted airflow fairly massively. It was not too loud at 100 kph.
I hope I'm not breaking forum rules but I'd be happy to sell them to you. I'll drop you a PM this weekend but the pipes are currently in the UK. They can come down with me the next time I drive to Italy in late May/early June or we can work out a courier if you need something sooner.
Best
Peter

#4 Re: Exhaust back pipe query
Thanks Peter.
I guess I will not be needing them before end of May, considering the problems I have with getting rid of the little things in finishing the car....
Looking forward to hearing from you.
