Hi All,
I am prepping for the retrim of the rear hatch door and wanted to clarify how the trim piece is attached to the lock mechanism area. It has a triangular hardboard piece with holes and foam and is pre-stapled to the vinyl. The holes align to the door holes (good start!) but I need to check the following:
1. Does the trim piece sit on top of the top and bottom trim panels, or tuck underneath?
2. Have I got it the right way up as per the pic 2?
3. Is it held in place by just the lock mechanism or does it get glued on as well?
4. Does it fit as per pic 2, then the vinyl folded over/around the mechanism as per pic 3?
TIA

Richard,
I have a 63FHC 888243 which has its original trim.
1. The top edge tucks underneath the top trim panel and the lower edge butts against the lower trim panel under the latch.
2. Your photo is correct
3. There does not appear to be any glue under the vinyl but not positive without taking the piece off the hatch.
4. There are 2 trim clips holding the hardboard to the hatch door and the vinyl folded over the trim clips then under the inner hatch glass.
Hope this helps,
Jim Fleetwood

Many thanks Jim, this does indeed help. What colour is your car - it looks like Golden Sand?

Richard,
Our car is Opalescent Gunmetal Gray. We have had the car since 1968 and it is undergoing a slow restoration.
Best of luck on your restoration.

Wow, since 1968? You must know the car like the back of your hand! There can’t be many cars around with that sort of history.
