Best Colour For Series 1 OTS?
#1 Best Colour For Series 1 OTS?
What do people think looks best, debating with my wife what colour to paint it when its done. She likes red, I like BRG or dark blue, but original is golden sand. Interior will definitely be black. Obviously there will be different opinions, but I would like to hear what you all think...

Hi
What’s your name please?
Cars were commonly changed to red!
Very few cars have the beautiful colours like silver grey, silver blue and golden sand ...they seem to suit the Etype shape and style
Opalescent golden sand is a stunning colour...why not keep it original?
Certainly keep it in a colour that was used in that era of the cars production if possible.
It’s all very personal!
Happy hunting
Robbie

Hi 64OTS
My 63 FHC was originally OGS with Tan trim. I have restored it back to that spec and I’m really glad I did.
It’s an actual fact that not painting your car in OGS will result in bad things happening.

Yep, I agree. Keep it original OGS! Not sure if black was an original interior colour with OGS. You need to check it out.....

We parked next to a coupe in OGS a few weeks ago. SWMBO said it was the prettiest colour for an E-Type. I tend to agree.
As for a OTS, OGS paint would need to be matched or contrasted with the colour of the roof, either canvas or if you have one, a hard top. For example OSG goes well with a pale blue roof, OEW goes well with a mid red roof. OGS?, might be a problem, and I think (personal choice here) a black roof would detract from the overall image. Maybe I'd play with photoshop for a while before deciding.

Thanks so far - I found a pic of an OGS roadster with black interior & hood on XKEdata. Actually looks quite good.

Our OTS used to be Opalescent Golden Sand and was changed by the last owner to British Racing Green. I think the latter suits the car better (in the U.K.) than OGS. Whilst subjective, we have had a lot of positive comment on ours at shows. If you lived in a country with stronger light, I think OGS would work. Keep the black interior and hood. At the end of the day, it Is personal choice though.

Interestingly British Racing Green was the rarest or maybe I should say the least popular colour on the E-Type in period. Only 42 3.8 cars were painted BRG probably because green was regarded as an unlucky colour. No one would paint their front door green because it would invite bad luck into the house.
A happy compromise would be Opalescent Dark Green - Jaguar painted 1,100 that colour and it is gorgeous but rare nowadays.

My 1962 S1 RHD OTS is due to be repaired and painted in its original Opalescent Dark Green and I’m going to stick with the Tan interior which seems to work beautifully.
The original hood colour was black but I’m going for tan which I thing will look good .

Oh, I agree Robbie! If I had the money or a magic wand, I would change my cream OTS opalescent dark green with tan (the light brown, not beige shade) with a matching hood and a zip out rear window. Since I have neither the money nor the wand, I'll just have be satisfied with what I have; poor me!

I love mine in Opalescent Dark Green, but if the original was Golden Sand I would stick with it as it is a great colour as well plus nice to have it as it was originally.
