#1 Earth wires connection

Post by david muir » Fri Aug 31, 2018 9:24 am

Hi, Just tidying up starter solenoid and battery cables on my 3.8. There were 2 earth wires connected to the mounting screw on the solenoid-is that where they should be?
Thanks

Has the car been converted to negative earth? It would be useful to know this.

Yes Phil, it is negative earth. I think I remember changing it when I fitted an alternator!

Okay folks, found a picture in the 3.8 Factory Fit section which shows earth wires attached to the starter solenoid mount screws. Answered my own question-relax!

I don't understand why that would make a difference to the answer of the question asked. :scratchheadyellow:

I agree that it shouldn't.

There are 2 ways to wire this solenoid depending on whether you actually want it to work or not.
Sometimes people bypass it so that the only solenoid that works is the one on the starter. A simple matter of moving wires from one side of the switch to the other.
