Hello Everyone
I am new to the club and was hoping for some technical guidance!
I’m in the process of restoring a Series 1 1966 2+2. I’m an experienced motor technician with 32 years of experience in the trade. Having said that, I’m a complete novice with the E Type, hence my call for help
I have and will no doubt continue to make some mistakes during my journey. But the biggest one so far was to have the Bonnet acid stripped......never again
My Bodyshop has reported that this treatment has a removed the bonding holding some of the panels together taking away the units rigidity
We have decided to strip the Bonnet completely and rebuild it from scratch. To be honest I’m not to upset with that as we can now totally rustproof and paint all of the panels
If anybody can help with the “proper’ rebuild procedure it would be great
I’ve been told to get a copy of Practical Classics E Type Restoration book which is proving difficult
Any help would be much appreciated

Chris,
Have a look at Chuck from Monocoque Metalworks various blogs, there are loads of pics and details on the bonnet rebuild process.
You have to trawl through the various ones but it is all there.
I’ve rebuilt 2 bonnets and helped Alty Ian on here with his. It is essential that the various brackets are bonded back on in the correct positions otherwise it will be a nightmare ever getting the bonnet to fit or line up again.
Also be VERY careful with the centre section as on its own is very flimsy and is easily bent out of shape around the area between the lights and in front of the bulge. Also watch when bonding the brackets on in the areas in front of the vents as that can distort too.
Other than that, you’ll be fine
Simon
