I have a quick question,
Has the S1 bonnet been painted as 1 piece?
I have a feeling it did, but maybe some panels were removed to facilitate painting of some areas (behind headlams, for eample?)

You paint all the components first, assemble it, then paint it again.

Yes, this is what I just did. If you are good at painting, you may paint the inside of them all plus the small bits by yourself. I also did the outside of the front underpan, because I will take the whole car to the painter in 2 weeks or so. In my case the tub is painted, I am adapting it to the car.

I apologize, I must have phrased my question incorrectly.
My question is: how was the bonnet painted by the factory, originally, back in the 60ies??
I know he one can do it nowdays, I am interested how Jaguar did it :-)

...if you are re-painting it, it is no longer original anyway.
So, if they did not paint the flanges properly, you could of course do the same.
But it makes no sense. Its an expensive and rare toy, do the job properly.
Mankind after you, the next custodians of the car will love you more if you did a proper job :-)

I do know how to protect the edges... :-)
I have:
- stripped the bonnet apart,
- soda blasted,
- removed all rust (there was not much),
- cadmium plated all the fasteners,
- then painted the all the assembly edges with the final coat.
Finally the bodyshop realigned all the parts and reassembled the bonnet to fit properly on the car.
I would rather not take it apart now - is there any point it it?
When I was taking my bonnet apart, I could see that most of the edges were unpainted, however I was wondering about few pieces, like the panels where the headlamps are mounted - were they originally painted with the car?
Also, there is a panel in front of the radiator net - this was was out when the bonnet was painted, I believe. Was it painted black or the body colour?
