#1 OTS boot cable question

Hi

Regarding a 3.8 OTS with rear "non locking" Boot pull cable BD15899, was wondering if there would be any problem fitting the later series 1 4.2 Boot locking cable BD27158?

Looking at sng pictures one would assume this wouldn't be an issue, has anyone done this change?

Thanks

John H

John -
My Aug 1963 OTS has a locking handles so they do fit.
I wasn't aware it was non standard - is the 4.2 changeover point listed in the official parts book or the SNGB one?

I fitted a locking handle to ny Nov ‘62 OTS. As far as I recall it was a straight replacement.

Thanks all.

From another source.... the only possible alteration is the bodywork hole for the locking handle needs to be slightly enlarged.

Sounds a simple job anyway.

Thanks again

John H.

p.s. Joe, on the SNG website there wasn’t a locking version available under 3.8 spares, just the 4.2 hence haven’t researched any further into a change date.

John, according to Clausager 'Factory Original Jaguar E-Type' the change to locking boot release was at the introduction of the 4.2. Page 87 "A welcome improvement on the 4.2 litre open two seater was that the boot release in the tonneau area was by this T-handle which incorporated a key lock"
Can't see an actual change reference or date so perhaps at the very introduction of the 4.2

hmm, no lock on my '67 4.2
Those guys with locks, do you you actually lock them, seems a bit of a faff.
Is it worth it :scratchheadyellow:

Yes, I lock it when I have luggage.

I also lock mine regularly. Good for stuff you want to leave in the car whilst parked up away from home (leather jacket, satnav, anything you don’t want in your hotel room etc) given that an OTS cabin even with the hood up is about as insecure as can be.

In my case it’s a no brainer to have a lock even for partly protecting my “breakdown” tools! A little extra piece of mind really.

Thanks all

Does anyone know the cable lock hole size inside the body of a 4.2 series 1 and where it is positioned? Mine has rusted out so I have no datum to work from. I know its above a 3/4 hole which is for the wiring harness to go through? Could be about 1 1/2" above that? Thanks.
