#1 Trying to find my father's Series 1

Post by charlesgooch » Mon Nov 19, 2018 5:42 pm

This might be a tall order but my father owned a blue Series 1 4.2 coupe in the late 60's. Getting to that stage in life, I thought I would like to find out if it still exists. I've trawled through the data website without success and someone suggested the forum might be able to help.
I have some photos of the car but annoyingly only showing the first three characters of the number plate, being DBJ
Anyone got any bright ideas please?!

It looks as though the car was registered in East Suffolk between March and May 1965,with a C suffix, which does at least narrow the field somewhat . My guess would be that the chassis number will be between 1E20150 and 1E20700 ( there was a flurry of cars built in early spring of 1965 ). There was a register of E types compiled by ( I think ) the JDC about the time of the 30th anniversary in 1991 and if you can find anyone with a copy of that it might help . Also, it will be a long job but you could try trawling through the chassis numbers above using the browse function on xkedata.com

Incidentally, to save you time I've been through the DVLA website on the first 100 numbers and on the obvious ones i.e. 200 to 900 and 111 to 999 and nothing shows up. I leave it to you to try the other 882 numbers !

I have searched the 1984 E Type Register Directory but alas no record of a car with that partial number nor by name is recorded.

Hi

Where can you find the Register?.... I am trying to backfill the history of my S1 OTS prior to the last owner purchasing it in 1985.

Many thanks

Regards

There is also the Jaguar Drivers Club Register of Vehicles and Owners book last published in 2011. I checked that but the car is not listed.

Doesn’t seem to exist any longer.
Series 1 FHC purchased 40 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

Looks like it has been off the road since 1979.
