#1 On all four

Post by peters3103 » Sun Nov 08, 2020 7:04 am

G’day anyone who’s interested,
Today, after 12 months, my E-Type is on four wheels again. It feels good to be motivated! Front suspension complete except for setting torsion bars to correct height & fitting shocks. I’m waiting on an adjustable reaction plate from Rob Beere. Tie rods will be painted once a wheel alignment has been done. Hoping to install the engine next week, subject to extra muscle being available.

Cheers,
Pete

Great news, Pete. It's always good to see progress and someone happy with that progress.
Yes, a few more bits to do but you're getting there

Great work. It’s always a morale boost to be able to tick off a milestone.
It seems like only yesterday I was at the same point!

Great paint colour by the way!

Hi Pete,

Nice job .... I'm in the middle of doing my S1 4.2 OTS for the second time in the 38 years I have owned it.

Just wondering, what size of wheels/tyres are you using?

Yours aye,

George :drinkingcheers:

G’day George,

Standard 5” with 185VR15 Michelin XVS tyres.
I had 6 1/2” with 205’s but very heavy steering. Much nicer to drive now.

Hi Pete,

I know what you mean. I put mine on 205s after the first rebuild during the 1980s and the steering was heavy. I believe if one wants to use 205s then they would have to add electronic power steering to compensate ..... an expensive solution!

This time around, I intend going back to 5" and am hoping to fit 185 Cintuatos. Used those tyres way back in the day when I was driving a Triumph Spitfire Mk3 - a great tyre albeit a wee bit lively in the rain :swerve:

I'll be interested to hear how you get along with your Michelins.

I have the body of my S1 back after 13 months so starting the rebuild. I have finished the engine and am able to run it up on a test stand and let the new parts bed in and I'm glad to say it runs very sweetly.

Please keep in touch.

Yours aye,

George :salute:
