bonnet handle right position ?
#1 bonnet handle right position ?
I wonder what is the correct position of the release handle lock ? actualy i have a new one from SNG and the open position is with the handle turned up when it is open and turned horizontal when closed.
Some one told me that it must be down when closed but in that case i must drill 2 new holes in the bulkhead to have the escutcheon screw verticaly, ! i don't want to drill ...
Is it correct to keep it as it is on the photos above ?

Well...... obviously there is another fitting ! i thought it was safer to have the closed position in the down position or horizontal instead of the opposite up position...

#7 Re: bonnet handle right position ?
Yes, that position is dangerous as the handle can rotate with vibration and the bonnet unlocks. I would ignore that drawing and go with the sensible position. From Factory Fit:

Te escutcheons are not handed so they both open and close the same way.

#10 Re: bonnet handle right position ?
Therein lies the problem - people with OCD want them in symmetry and pointing in opposite directions when closed. It means the LH side opens with vibration especially if the rubber buffers have not been fitted.

Hi Martin...Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), and behaviors that drive them to do something over and over (compulsions). Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts.

Forgive me for probably being dumb but should they both point down so to speak when the bonnet is closed then?

#14 Re: bonnet handle right position ?
The position is dictated by the two escutcheon retaining screws so they can only be in one of two orientations, pointing down is not one of them.
