#1 Metallifacture jack

Post by Bernie2015 » Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:04 am

Does anyone know where to source parts for a Series 1 detachable handle Metallifacture jack. The circular knurled part (I guess for moving it small amounts by hand) by the ratchet and fixing parts for it are missing from mine. Still works but it would be nice to see it complete.

I bought the knurled knob for my series 1 jack but it needs painting to match the jack. Was the jack the same paint code as the front shock absorbers?

Ive located the paint but have a choice of Gloss, Half gloss or 1K OAD enamel. Could anyone shed some light on what the best choice of the 3 would be?

About to buy the paint but just realised there's another choice - nothing is easy! Re aerosol paint type does anyone know if the jack should be painted in enamel, synthetic, cellulose or 2k airdry converted?

That is the colour we have painted the shock absorbers on our S1 3.8 which tallies with references elsewhere on the forum.

I phoned Ralaerosols and (for anyone interested in repainting their jack) either enamel or air dry converted will suffice.

The BS633 aerosol has arrived and it doesn't appear to be the correct colour. I have another original jack in good condition that still has most of the paint on and it is a lot less blue and a lot more grey.
Any ideas where BS633 came from for the Series 1 jack colour?

Thanks Steve that's why I bought it. What I have from Ralaerosols ie BS 381C RAF Blue-Grey 633 isn't right perhaps I bought the wrong one.

Hi Burnie,

I thought the BS633 was too blue also. My jack and extra handle seem more dark grey. I spray index sized cards then hold the card up to the part to see how it matches. Let us know how the BS831C matches as I am looking at a computer screen and the color may be off.

Ralaerosol.com 633 RAF blue-grey is nothing like the colour of an original jack - more dark blue than anything so I am going to try and find a better match before I paint my jack. There are a lot of photos around with repainted jacks that look dark blue. I always thought it was just photos taken in a bad light but now I'm beginning to think its just the wrong colour.

Just to add to this discussion: I have a couple of unrestored, original jacks and there are at least two different colours out there. Also amongst the first detached handle type

E.g. I bought a handle from Richard as it was missing at one of my jacks and the colour is different. This was before he reproduced them. Both parts original, unrestored and never repainted (according to my humble assessment)
