Hello gents,
It’s me again! I’ve bought a Dynamator to replace my alternator for a more period appearance on my 3.8. I was given a dynamo mounting bracket which I assumed was correct however the Dynamator measures 6 13/16” between the mounting lugs and the bracket measures 6 1/2” overall. Therefore the Dynamator is 5/16” too long for the bracket as pictured below. I guess I could use spacers at either end to line up the pulleys. Could someone kindly give me the correct measurement of an original 3.8 mounting bracket to confirm whether or not mine’s correct.
Many thanks in advance.

I think I’ve answered my own question. After more google searches and looking at the shape of my newly acquired bracket, I think it’s from a late XK140 which presumably is shorter.

There might be a spacer bush in there.... if I had a 3.8 at my house I could check but currently they're both elsewhere.
Random pictures:
I think this is what you have: C14917 which is the early bracket (?for the C45 dynamo) which might actually be right for your car depending on how early it is.
I think this is C14917 with the later bracket C18228 for the C42 dynamo:

Yep my November 61 would’ve been fitted with a C42 originally so need the later C18228 bracket.

The one I bought from SNGB recently had one of the holes drilled about 12cm out of alignment.peters3103 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 5:36 amYep my November 61 would’ve been fitted with a C42 originally so need the later C18228 bracket.
