#1 Rad & fan install

Post by peters3103 » Fri Feb 08, 2019 5:35 am

Hi all,
I’m about to fit my new Radtec radiator and am proposing to use the existing Kenlowe fan which is currently installed with nuts and bolts through the core. Obviously I don’t want to use this method and need to fabricate some brackets to attach the fan unit to. Any suggestions on how/where to attach said brackets? Would the shroud be strong enough to support the fan or is that asking for trouble?

Cheers,
Pete

I'd say asking for trouble. It is some kind of fibre glass I think. If original it will probably be brittle and even if new probably not strong enough. My advice....a coolkat fan. Fits on the original mount and pulls a lot of air. Fits perfectly within the shroud. Great piece of kit.

Agreed, my only problem is that some twat has cut half the original fan motor bracket off to allow room for the Kenlowe motor. It will need repair or replacement. I do have an original motor & blade and it would be interesting to see how that fares with the more efficient radiator, however I think the Coolcat is the way to go.

I’ve mounted a Davies Craig fan in the gob on my car fixed to the stone guard pushing air through the radiator (it’s got a reversible blade so can be used as a puller and fitted inside the original fan cowl if needed but you’d have to make brackets). I also fitted the Davies Craig control unit which lets you select on / off temps etc, works well and can all be stripped off one day if needed.

It gives me peace of mind and the car will sit in a traffic jam and not go above 90 degrees c
