#1 Metal circle on windscreen!

Post by Jonny XKE » Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:29 pm

I should know this I'm sure and its probably a daft question .. however on windscreen there is a round metal object on the windscreen near where the rear view mirror is. Its got a hole in the middle of it. What the heck is this?! :helpsign:

Sounds like the mount for a series 2 rear view mirror. I wouldn’t try to remove it!

That’s exactly what was present on my imported series 1.5 - a mirror fixing
I didn’t like it and wanted to fit the more normal mirror mounted on the central rod.

Took the gamble and with a piece of hardwood pressed against it gave it a tap with a hammer and off it came.
Fair job to remove the residual adhesive though.
Series 1 FHC purchased 40 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

Not sure I'm brave enough to knock it off! So did series 1.5's have a series 2 mirror. I know of all the other differences and I know some had all of these and some had a few. However never knew about this difference.
