Hi,

I have bought some courtesy light switches and they are too big to clip into the holes in the' A' post.
In fact I managed to break the spring clips whilst trying to force them in.
I bought them from SNG who state that nobody else has reported problems with these, but they will replace them or refund me.

My question is; has anybody else had problems fitting these switches?

My car is factory in this area and I am sure that the holes haven't got smaller.

yes, they HAVE HAD problems with these! They don't fit.

And that is my biggest issue with Barratts. Perhaps it's something someone can bring up at the meeting.
Not that something doesn't fit but the absolute denial that they have ever experienced a problem.
Fitment issues, reasons for return, etc need addressing. I realise I'm as guilty as the next man for just throwing stuff in the bin rather than having the hassle of sending it back, especially on low value items which doesn't help improve things. However more recently I have tried to make the effort to tell them about quality or fitment issues.
If it's any consolation, mine didn't fit either.

I agree; I don't normally bother with these smaller items.
I had broken mine, so I didn't think I was likely to get them replaced anyway, But I just thought that this time I should let SNG know.

I was pleasantly surprised when a refund or replacement was offered.

I try and find originals as I don't have any other supplier I'm afraid.

I know how frustrated customers get with the "its never happened before" response so i will find the culprit in this case! In fairness to our team we have had zero returns on these in 2018 or 2019 and we sell hundreds, but that doesnt mean its not worth investigating. I will ensure my team look into this - i do have a vague recollection of a previous issue with these some time back but this was more to do with the operation of the switch in that the plunger was jamming but that was resolved. I will look into the specific issue before Saturday...

Than you for your response.
My post was not intended to be a complaint about your company; on the contrary I am very happy with the service and the response to my queries.
I have bought most of the parts for my restoration from you and generally have no problem with the quality.
As others have said, it is possible that people are not feeding back their problems, especially with low value items.
It is clear that you have a genuine interest in improving the situation, which is what prompted me to let the company know that I had had a fitment issue.

With this particular problem, I was at a loss as to where the problem was and how I could resolve it hence my question.

It is good to hear that this particular part is now being looked at.

Ok so we have had a look into this and we could definitely do better on these switches - the current ones are a bit more interference fit than optimal! The ones on our own E-type look like they have taken some effort to install.
We do some of the assembly of these in-house, but the components are bought in so we will address with our suppliers and will shout about it when we have a revised version.

At the risk of declaring myself a dimwit; I would like to get these out of the A Post’s to get them working again.

How do they come out?

Ash,

They should pull out relatively easily holding the plunger with your thumb and forefinger. Rather than pull them out at 90 degrees to the hole, try rocking them from side to side until one part of the retaining clip comes out. This is assuming someone hasn’t super glued them in to overcome a loose fit.
If you break it, let me know so I can delete my post.

E type series 1 2+2
Ordered a new hinge for my resto as the pin was shot in the original
Sent it off for paint and refitted the hinge
Went to fit the courtesy light after trying to fit the other side and having the same issues with it not fitting

Spot the difference in the hinges
Old hinge has hole for switch lower image
New hing has a space so where do I fit the switch??

This is a new part, I will now have to take up with the supplier of the switch and the hinge the same supplier
Very frustrating as I have had the hinge painted and fitted it

Lesson learned check before you fit! And paint

No wonder you are having problems fitting the switch Phil. It doesn't go anywhere near the hinge....it sits at the top of the A post, near the base of the windscreen. It sticks out sideways and bears on a small oblong plate fixed to the inside of the door.

Had the same problem on my 2+2 door hinges.
Last year, ordered both sides, the right hand side arrived with the "incorporated bolt" and all was fine. Door shuts beautifully.
The left side was a version with the hole. Got feedback from SNG that they no longer will supply the one with the bolt.
Had to return the hinge and had mine "remanufactured". Unfortunately the door still drops around 2 cm when opening and doesn't really closed very easily.
Don't really want to buy another 2nd hand one and have it "rebored" again. Nor do I want to fit the wrong hinge and have to figure out on how to make the courtesy lights work.
So asked SNG this week whether they would reconsider supplying the correct hinge for a 2+2 but didn't get a reply yet.
Will give it another week or so until I fit the door covers and live with a door drop...

Would also like to add JL101 engine bay harness that has the wires for the courtesy light switches C16367 has spade not bullet fittings
