#1 Owner's manual edition
Does anybody know which edition the owner's manual would have been for an April '65 4.2L car? I would like to try and get some of the missing documentation for my car but have no idea what it would have come with when new.
Thanks, Paul.
Thanks, Paul.

If you are a member of the The E-Type Club you can get the most amazing detail on all the documentation that came with all E-type models.
S1 4.2 documentation is covered over 3 articles in issues 136,137 and 138 of the magazine starting in March 2016.

Original documentation can be extremely costly....owners manuals have been reproduced by, among others, Brooklands books. They just do sample 3.8 and 4.2 manuals and, as mentioned above, there were several versions of each so to get the exact version for April 65 may mean an original. According to issue 136 of the e type magazine you need version E/131/2 of the 4.2 manual which was issued from Feb 1965 to Feb 1966...roughly.

And then you need: the lubrication chart(numbered and dated), various extra information leaflets, JDC application form, maintenance vouchers, warranty card, tax disc holder, owners vinyl wallet. It gets to be very expensive! And if you want to complete the set you need the Service Manual in the green vinyl folder and Spare Parts catalogue in the black vinyl.

Thanks all for the info. I do have a jack and a toolkit which I had to sell my first born for but it would be nice to get the documentation. The set I was looking at has an E/122/2 owner's manual but I think that's a 3.8 version?

Correct...that edition number E/122/2 is for an early 3.8 liter E-type,circa 1962.
I’m guessing that you’re looking at the set of documents now being offered on eBay. That set is mismatched in that it has an owner’s manual for a 3.8 E, but a maintenance chart for a 4.2 E. Nevertheless it’s an impressive collection of documents and one might consider buying the lot to get most of what you need then selling off the item(s) that are mismatched and using those proceeds to buy the correct documents.

Hi Paul,
as all my dear friends and promoters have mentioned my contact here. I am happy to share some pics of a mint original 131/2 owners manual set.
I have been working with Roger Payne for a long time on the Manual sets as well as on the tool kits and I do have collected quite some stuff over the years.
Paul, if you have questions please send me a p.m.
The pics are for helping you to understand the owners manual set.
And yes, they are rare and maybe that is the reason why they are not cheap. But the originals are very unique and will probably maintain or increase in value.
Certainly a very nice item to pull out and show to real enthusiast, especially for the lovers of originality.

Sorry Maikel but that Owners pack is incomplete as there are still three important and difficult to find items missing for a Home Market car:
This booklet was used from 1961 to 1965 and then changed to reflect the new RAC logo.
If anyone is wondering why Sir William allowed these 'promotional' items to be officially supplied with each new car - he was Honorary President of both organisations.

Paul,
If you want a usable version of the handbook to keep in the car, the Brooklands version for the 4.2 is E/131/6 but apart from minor differences (eg this handbook shows a switch and warning light for the heated rear window on the FHC, whereas the switch and light weren't fitted until Feb '66) it is a very useful reference for servicing etc.

Thanks all for the photos and info. At least I now have a better idea what I'm looking for
What sort of price is the going rate for the documentation?
Thanks, Paul.
