Series 1 FHC Window Regulator
#1 Series 1 FHC Window Regulator
Sadly my original window regulator has started to give up and I fear I will have purchase a new regulator. Has anyone experience of these, are they any good? Do they work ok , or are they poor quality? Would appreciate any experiences before shelling out the £160

Andrew : if yours is anything like mine were , it is likely that the teeth on the quadrant are worn . It was a bit of a bodge, but I repaired mine by welding the teeth that were worn , to build up the metal , and then dressing them down to the correct profile

Thanks Christopher. I will take a close look, but it appears that they are stripped in the little drive wheel which may be harder to fix. Have you done anything to that wheel or just the big quadrant?

Andrew - no, fortunately the handle wheel - for want of a better expression - was alright on mine . I think that somewhere there is a thread where someone from overseas welded up both wheel and quadrant
Edit : aha, this is it http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6491 - unforthunately I can't make the pictures work, and I'm not sure what "fingers" are that are referred to

i ordered the last 2 from XKs last month. If it looks like they are going to struggle to get you one in reasonable time I have a spare of both the small and large ones.
PM me if you want one of mine.
Cheers
AB
Andrew.

Or you could wedge the window closed with a couple of wooden blocks and go for a cruise. Just avoid toll booths and car park ticket machines.

thats a very kind offer. I think if you were in the UK it would be a great offer but I can wait for it to come back into stock. Thanks though.

Some years ago I repaired my S2 FHC driver winder mech using a similar part from the BL parts bin. Austin/Morris 1100/1300 Maxi all seemed very similar, a trawl of the local scrap yards yielded a rear door winder mech and an afternoons work resulted in my winder working as new.
I appreciate scrapyards are not what they used to be, perhaps a search of e bay might yield some success.

I have just checked e bay and there are several mechs available priced very reasonably, if from a rear door you can replace quadrant and gears to effect a good repair. Best of luck
