#1 Transmission cover trim

Post by Grobinson » Wed Jul 10, 2019 7:37 am

I have a 1962 FHC which has the transmission cover in leather trim with a centre armrest at the rear. It’s been suggested to me that the correct trim finish should in fact be aluminium; can anyone shed any light on this for me please.
Many thanks
Graeme

Hi - a 1962 E-Type should have neither the hinged arm-rest box nor the the leather surface. The Central armrest and trim was introduced in August 1963 (see Spares Bulletin - Body P.91). In Sept 1963, the instrument panel was changed from Aluminium face to black vinyl (see Spares Bulletin - Body P.95) and, also that month the front finisher panel above the gearbox tunnel became leather trimmed rather than Aluminium (see Spares Bulletin - Body P.97).

It is not uncommon for these to be retro-fitted.

The Spares Bulletins are in the Forum Knowledgebase.
