#1 Door lock fixing screw sizes

Post by PaulColeman » Sun May 03, 2020 8:14 pm

On the door locks there are 4 fixing screws. Three of them are 2BA and screw into the nuts on the lock but the other one is a straight nut and bolt - does anybody know what size this is supposed to be as 2BA seems too big.

Thanks, Paul.

I'm struggling to visualise which screws you are talking about.

AFAIK all the fixings are UNF... Can you do a picture?

It's the hole that's circled. The other three fixings in the lock are tapped holes but this other one isn't...

Hmm... strange. Mine only have three holes tapped like the replacement ones that SNG sell? The strange thing is that the single un-tapped hole is smaller than the other three.

On my 1963 coupe in the garage all 4 are tapped.

The diagram you have from SNGB shows C20095 and I agree the holes aren't tapped. The parts manual for your car lists 6 screws so that's probably correct.

The code for the screw is UFS 419 3/H which means

Unified
Fine
Setscrew
Round head slotted
3/16" diameter
3/8" long
Screwdriver driven

Thanks for the info. I was expecting 3 screws per lock for the tapped holes plus another screw and nut of a smaller size for the other hole? My door shells are like the ones in the picture above with 4 fixing holes.

Interesting?

There is definitely four set screws in mine and I had a look at the CMC restoration manual and on page 191 you can see the same??

However, looking at my photo of the rear of the lock, it appears that that hole may possibly not be originally threaded??

But why would Jaguar do that?

Is it because some part of the internal mechanism would foul on it and therefore the screw has to be really short? That hole is not tapped in mine though so I'm probably talking rubbish! It's also smaller than the other holes.

Looking closely at my picture there are 2x BD20780/3 which are "shakeproof screws".

I bet that's what goes in your holes.
