#1 Refurbished spinners

Post by Robbiee » Mon Jul 13, 2020 12:58 pm

Just got my original spinners back from Derby Plating ...I cant quite believe that they are the bashed/worn/ corroded ones I left them with 3 weeks ago!
They’ve dressed the dents out and you can also still see the early writing

They look great. I now have spinner-envy.

What should I be budgeting if I want my 4 done by them?

Hi Richard
£240 including VAT for the lot!
This includes them getting rid of the bashed/bent edges!
They can also recut the small writing for a little extra but mine were ok.

A new set from SNGB are £190 plus including VAT...very pretty BUT .. writing and arrows not the same, not sure of material/weight, “JAGUAR” is coloured in black.

So, I would say £240 is a bargain...oh and the quality of the playing is superb

Sounds good to me. Mine are the original AB pressings so would rather pay out for a refurb than go for repros.

That’s exactly what I paid at Marque Restore.
Worth it when you see them on the car!

They look really good. I have a bit of plating missing on one of mine. I now know where to go!

Yup Mine are AB pressings
Funny ..it’s the first thing I look for when a “concours” resto is advertised at a crazy price!!
I chose Derby Plating vas they are down the road and phenomenal quality

If it’s a 3.8, I look for the white studs on the cable strapping and a blue plug for the washer bottle lid!

Well done Robbie, great to see someone is doing it properly. I know £250 seems a lot compared to a new set for half the price but the benefits are enormous.

Agreed ...although I understand the blue plug was only on the very early ones??

David
I think so
X4 new ones from sngb are £192...so £10ish on top of that for rechromed originals is pretty cheap!

I don’t know the dates for the change from blue to black plugs, but mine’s a Nov 63 and it’s a got a blue one (with a lot of age to it). I’ll have a trawl through the factory thread and see if it’s noted.

My Lucas 2SJ washer motor is dated April 1964 and that has a black plug in the lid. Having just checked Haddock, that refers to early 3.8s having the blue plug.
