Painted wheels???
#1 Painted wheels???
Ok chaps
Trying to decide whether to have chrome/stainless steel OR painted Wires for my ‘62 OTS resto.
Car is opalescent dark green.
I’m kind of feeling that painted would be appropriate and less overstated than chrome??
Views please???

I have 1 car with chrome ( signal red ) and 1 with painted ( actually powder coated ) - Opalescent Silver Blue
Of the two, I prefer the understated look of the painted ones whereas the chromes are a bit "bling"

I’ve just gone from to painted and much prefer, looks more period. Chrome also never seems to last these days.

Opalescent colours look better with chrome, solid colours better painted "Stoved Aluminum" (Metallichrome Aluminium - ICI: P0-2358) IMHO.

Painted - every time - they can be refurbished from time to time . With chrome you are looking at a new set of wheels .

Painted, with a protective coating of grime. I don’t have time to clean and polish wheels.

Thanks chaps. I think painted would be more period and be good with the dark green even though opalescent David (and significantly cheaper)!

Just as everyone has convinced themselves of the merits of painted wheels......
My car looks incredible when I clean the CWWs properly. After over 65,000 miles they come up like new every time. Ok not quite like new, but you have to get very close to see any marks. And when looked at with a fresh polish on the paint I am convinced CWWs are a far better option than painted.

I agree with Heuer, Chrome with opalescent, painted with solid colours. My opalescent dark blue Ser 1 fhc looks great with chrome but I have tried a spare set of painted wheels and it certainly lost some of the wow factor with them.

Err - chrome wires were available from day 1 of E-Type production. Painted wire wheels are more 1930's, 40's and 50's period. 9600 HP:

Just in case anyone needs confirmation.......
Yesterday, as we were heading back home along the village high street, I noticed a neighbour and stopped to say hi.
She described the car as “sparkling in the sunlight”, which it did. However I was much more enamoured by her heaving chest, which almost fell into my lap as she leant down to talk to me through the window. I don’t think painted wires would shave had the same effect.

“ Doesn't sound like appropriate social distancing, Chris.”
Indeed, highly inappropriate.
I will stop and talk to her again.

Should have opened the window further - on a LWB you’d have been treated to both chests. It’s a “2+2” remember...
