#1 Early 1961 Aluminium Rear Hubs

Post by heritageclassicsltd » Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:06 am

Hi - I've been corresponding and getting help from a few folks about this so it makes sense just to ask if anyone has, or knows who might have an (1) early rear aluminium hub that they would sell. Fitted only in early 1961 and marked with the number C 15229-4 LM10 on the inside face just below the bearing. Looks like a standard hub but without the raised step area around the outboard bearing.
I'd be happy to pay a significant price for the real thing! Many thanks for looking!

Hi,
Looking at the parts manual it lists C19063 from the first cars! Are you saying that there was a previous version that is not listed? If so what is your reference?
Are you aware of a SB that introduces the C19063 version?
Incidentally there was a pair of the C19063 on eBay at £1800 for the pair recently.

I'd be interested in seeing a photo comparison. IIRC, there was a post that tried to show this a while back but it only demonstrated the latter versions, probably because the early ones are hard to find

Sorry but can't help with your quest, just interested.
Regards,
Michael

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the in situ photo, makes sense now.
How did you get on with hub bearings and seals if the diameter is smaller and the hub isn't listed, presumably suitable bearings etc are not listed either.
A visit to a bearing specialist with the old bits in hand? Works around here if you want the Timkin originals instead of Chinese stuff.

The bearings and seals in these hubs are both the same as the later inner bearing and seal. The only problem are the bits the outer seals runs on, they need to have the outer diameter of the inner one and the inner diameter of the new hubs. A local shop made me a pair for £50.
