Ignition vacuum
#1 Ignition vacuum
Just trying to make sure all is correct, is the vacuum to advance the ignition pulled from SU No3?

Lovely, thanks yes I have that only that at some point in the car's past the copper tube was cut around an inch and a half past the bend from the carb and a fabric braided rubber hose was fitted. I guess I will get the proper one some day.
On the other hand at £51.85 its a bit of a liberty.

My '64 has the rubber connecting pipe to the carb. Seems earlier cars had the screw down fitting on a coiled pipe as shown in the top pic, similar to my old Mk7.

My distributor vacuum nozzle has no thread just a push on fit for a hose.

Yep, my 62 is the threaded connection. I thought all 3.8s had a carb with that setup.
Do you have the original 3.8 type intake?
Perhaps a replacement carb?

Mine too yet original 1965 4.2.
The Factory Original Guide Jaguar E Type (Anders Ditlev Clausager) doesn’t indicate rubber hose either way.

Yes all original engine and carbs, the carbs do have the standard threaded bit and the copper pipe is 3" long angled at 90 degrees but the distributor has a slip on type nozzle. the rubber hose is slipped over the copper pipe on the carb and the other end over the distributor vacuum nozzle. it all works fine.
