Good evening.
I am looking at my centre radio console, and wondered what screws/ fixings should be used to fix the ashtray insert at the sides of the radio console. At the moment, someone has previously made a complete hash of it. There is no ashtray, which i plan to reinstate to bring back the originality of the car. In its place is a thin piece of rubbish wood, covered in vinyl and screwed through the front. I have the original aluminium console pieces. How do these fix to the main radio console? Is it by folding the aluminium tabs over the framework at the top? Thanks in advance.

Actually, it's an interesting question.
I think that the early ash tray inserts were fixed with self tapping screws, while the later ones were UFS419/4H.
The head though I think should be the same (Slotted Panhead).
Also, all the original ones I have seen on photos looked chromed.

My 62 OTS late 61 mfgr has machine threaded screws. Not sure on thread spec. Origs were pan head chrome.

Thank you so much. Thats very helpful. The person before who tried to "restore" the car has also cut clean through the screw slots on the side of the consol. I'm not sure why, but a new one has now been purchased.
