#1 Marchal Amplilux headlights

Post by pafagt » Sun Mar 03, 2024 3:17 pm

Hello forum, I need to replace the headlights on my car. I have a pair of Marchal Ampliluxes 7” that are great lights but I’ve have not seen them installed on e types. Do you know if these were ever used or installed on e types?

Thanks for your comments !

The Factory fitted Lucas headlamps although when cars were shipped to the US sealed beam were mandated; they were usually GE headlamps. Marchal Ampilux were an after market upgrade for many cars in period but if you have a S1 bonnet they may not fit. This is because the buckets have a slanted back to clear the front tyres.

Here is a comparison of Cibie vs Wipac to illustrate the problem - only the Wipac fit:

The Cibie are better headlamps but will not fit the S1. You need to measure from the rim (not the attachment points). It has to be less than 3". If you have an S1.5 or S2 bonnet there is no fitment problem

Thank you very much David, I’ll measure them as you mention. I’m not absolutely sure about installing the Marshals as they are flat on the front instead of curved as the original headlights are not sure how that is going to look on the car. I have not been able to find a picture of how these Ampliluxes look on an etype

Looking at photos I doubt they will fit an S1 E-Type bonnet as they are very big due to the double reflector design:

Thank you David, they will not fit. I’ll keep looking for an original set of Lucas 7” and leave the Marshals for an early 911.

Thank you very much, you saved me a headache,

Hella H4 e code fits.
They also have the flat lens. Really don't notice it unless you look closely.
I do have a SI with covered headlamps so they are not obtrusive.
You have exposed lamps?

Hi Layne, my car is a late series 1 with open headlights. I’m in the process of restoring it. All mechanicals are almost done and will start with paint pretty soon.
