Help please. I’m rebuilding a series 1 2+2 automatic. Unfortunately the car came to me in bits so I’m struggling to work out where the kick down shaft mounts to the engine. None of the manuals seem to be any use. Any advice and/or photos would be great fully appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Steve, this does help in that I can make out where the shaft should be. Unfortunately for the life of me I can’t work out where on the engine/ cylinder head it actually screws in to secure it. Or does it attach to the inlet manifold some how? Thanks again

By this picture I’d say it’s around the inlet manifold stud area tbh.

This is the picture from the Service manual dealing with adjustment of the kickdown cable.

It might give you some idea of how it's mounted.

At a guess, it looks like it might mount on the rearmost lower inlet manifold stud...

Yes I originally thought that it might attach to the manifold studs but unfortunately on closer examination the mounting points on the shaft has captive nuts on the rear side of the mounting brackets which means there is no way they can slide over any of the manifold studs. I’m at a complete loss. It is definitely not clear how this can possibly be mounted. I like to pride myself in being able to problem solve most issues but I’m finding this impossible !!

do you have triple SU's or Fed spec Strombergs with the secondary manifold?
The reason I ask is that they will most likely mount slightly different.
My car has the Fed setup and the shaft mounts under the main inlet manifold and uses 2 of the lower studs of the secondary manifold that pass through the main manifold as one of the mounting points the other being the bracket at the bulkhead end which slips over the lower manifold stud. I just took my secondary manifold off to try to get a photo but not much help.

This shows the upright bracket mounted on the lower manifold stud.

If you slip your shaft onto the lower left manifold stud as above it should become obvious where the other attachment point is. You might want to train a mouse to use a spanner as space is very tight.

Before you fit the shaft, could you take a photo of the little clip that retains the kickdown cable and provide some measurements of it please. I seem to have mislaid mine and need to make one as they appear to be unobtainable.

Thanks Tony, mine is a triple carb set up so the inlet manifold is different from yours.
I’ll see if mine has the clip you refer to and send a pic over the weekend when I next get to my garage,

Thanks for the advice everyone, I managed to figure it out. The captive it’s I referred to are infact captive spacers so the kick down shaft does bolt onto the inlet manifold studs .
Tony, unfortunately I’m also missing the clip which keeps the kick down cable in place so can’t send a pic, sorry.
