#1 Hinged Extension Support Rail 3.8 FHC

Post by Series1 Stu » Sat Apr 06, 2024 3:21 pm

Hi Guys

Do any of you have pictures showing the position of the above mentioned support rail, please?

Most of the pictures that I have seen are taken with the seats in place so detail isn't complete.

What I am most interested in is seeing how the hinged extension board sits on the support rail. In my mind, it should run flush/parallel to the boot boards and sit squarely on the support rail without any space between them.

On many of the images I've seen it appears that the extension board sits slightly raised and with a gap between it and the support rail.

My attempts at offering up the (new reproduction) support rail result in a gap between the support rail and the rear bulkhead of around an inch. If I sit the support rail flat on the bulkhead then there is a gap of around an inch between the support rail and extension board. It also appears that the bend angles aren't correct either.

My research shows that some cars don't seem to have the support rail fitted or there appears to be a large gap between the 2 parts when the hinged extension is lowered.

Can anybody shed any light on this please?

regards
Stuart

Thanks Danny,

That helps in confirming the board sits pretty much level with the boot floor but what I really need is some views from the front showing the board meeting the support rail.

Stuart

Try this Stuart,

You may well have a slight gap as each end of the folding board has a striker pin and corresponding spring locking/locating clip. These stop the board bouncing when folded flat.

Sorry about quality of next picture but I think it makes the point:

Thanks Steve

That link was helpful in that it showed the hinged extension sitting neatly on the support rail although it appears to be a later car than mine. I have all the hardware in place on the hinged board but getting everything to line up is exercising my patience in that I can't see that my new reproduction support rail will ever fit properly AND meet with the hinged board.

Looking around at other peoples' cars suggest that some give up on this and either leave the support rail out altogether or live with them not lining up properly.

Regards
Stuart
