IRS hub nut
#1 IRS hub nut
Hi,
Can someone kindly let me know what size the hub nuts are on the IRS? My largest socket is 1" and it's too small.

I think, but am not certain, that they are a 3/4 UNC nut and require a 1 1/8" AF socket . I have checked with the part numbers but this is equivocal because it appears to show a 9/16 nut which would require a 7/8 spanner, which plainly is not the case on your car, and which does not agree with my recollection. Your best bet is to measure the nut with a caliper

Thanks Christopher, much appreciated. I can't easily measure the nut due to how far it is set into the hub :-(

I've tried to measure it and it looks like 1 and 5/16".
Can anyone else confirm this?
Thanks.

Hi Simon,
If you mean the castellated nut which holds the splined hub on, I just checked and Chris's recollection is correct - it takes 1-1/8" socket.
Cheers,
Neil

Simon : no, it is definitely not 1 5/16 because this is the size of the socket which fits the front pulley nut which is the biggest on the car ! I have a mini driveshaft nut socket ( which used to be available in all factors ) which fits the pulley nut

Christopher/Neil,
Really appreciate your replies - looks like I need to buy two new sockets then, a 1 and 1/8" for the castelated hub nuts and a 1 and 5/16" for the crank pulley :-)
Thanks.

Simon : I hope I have not misled you about the pulley nut socket size - it could be 1.5 inch !! Again, best to measure it across the flats and use the on-line size converters to see what you need
