#1 Wiper rack removal

Post by Airborne62 » Tue Mar 03, 2015 10:46 pm

Is there a secret to removing the wiper rack assembly? I have the left and right spindles off. Does the center spindle need to be detached from the long mounting bracket? If so, how is this done?

Sheer insanity closing up the bulkhead permanently like that...
Thanks!

Swearing, jiggling, skin loss.

I left the spindles on mine, pulled the entire assembly into the void behind the bulkhead and fed it all the way along to one side. When you can go no further it is possible with a lot of juggling to withdraw the mechanism through one of the holes in the void. It helps to have small hands, you will take a lot of skin off your knuckles!

As for getting in back in again, I'll cross that bridge when it happens.

I think I took mine out through the hole where the glove box goes, it isn't an easy job but it will come out. The whole dash and fascias were out on mine when I did it.

Well here is is for the next poor soul who ventures into the abyss of the bulkhead...
Remove left and right spindles
Release the knurled adjustment knob from the front

Drop the whole mess, including the center spindle down and to the left as far as you can, then feed it out the center hole. Mind you, there is only one vector in three dimensional space that allows this mess to exit. Find it and then have a cold one.

Correct. Reminds me of Dirk Gently's "sofa on landing" conundrum.
